DPS Group Power Up Warout Primary School

Big focus on supporting STEAM as part of DPS Group’s commitment to encouraging kids to become engineers of the future!

DPS Group last week linked up with local Warout Primary School to provide support and sponsorship for their first year entering the Fife Goblins Racewall 2019 event.

Our director Colin Millar was delighted to create a partnership that continues DPS Group’s work within the local community and, as a drag race enthusiast himself, the event was particularly close to his heart!

The school engaged in the project with the Greenpower Education Trust, as part of developing their STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) programme.

This fits with DPS Group’s commitment to the development of the next generation of engineers and technicians.

Colin Millar said: “A big part of our ethos is to invest time into the future prospects of the industry. It has been great to work with the kids and give them inspiration and skills to give them a flavour of the type of work involved at DPS Group and I was thrilled to see so many young enthusiastic students invested in the STEAM programme.”

The project included a 15-hour build as well as the children documenting the design build by creating a portfolio from initial conception to finished car, highlighting the pitfalls and challenges and also how they overcome potential problems in the engineering of the race car.

The students from Warout Primary School in Glenrothes, all aged between 9 and 11, scooped the prizes for Best Portfolio and Best Presented Team at Friday’s competition.

Michael Scott, Group Financial Controller who attended the event said:

“It was DPS Group’s absolute pleasure to sponsor the Warout Warriors from Warout Primary School and watch them compete at Cowdenbeath Racewell in their own custom built kit car against 24 other Fife primary schools!  Congratulations to the Warriors who took away two trophies on the day and to each of the schools who took part.”

Teacher Hazel McLure, who led the programme said: “The kids have had an absolutely brilliant time and have thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We have had great support from the community Police, parents, and great sponsorship from DPS Group. Colin Millar has been fantastic in supporting and inspiring the kids.”

Everyone at DPS Group are excited about the new relationship and future support they can offer and are keen to be involved in the event again next year.
