DPS Group Sponsored Skier British Junior Ski Champion!

Iain Innes, sponsored by DPS Group, has secured a first British Junior title at the national championships in Tignes, France.

Edinburgh’s young ski sensation Iain Innes was last week crowed British Junior Champion at the Delancy British Alpine Ski Championships

In doing so, the DPS Group sponsored starlet, is now the No. 3 ranked speed skier in the UK, despite being just 18, after a stunning set of results on the slopes at Tignes in France.

Iain’s key successes included:

  • Overall British Junior Champion (U21)
  • Vice-National British Champion 
  • British Super G National Champion
  • British Downhill Junior (U21) Champion
  • British Giant Slalom Junior (U21) Champion

Iain’s international results have been likewise impressive and he has now qualified for next year’s Alpine Junior World Ski Championships to be held in Davos, Switzerland in January 2018.

He got off to a flying start taking first place in the National Championships Super Giant Slalom race, and following up with second place in the Junior (U21) Championship race.

In the Downhill races, Iain took the Junior Championship title, and came second in the National Championship race.

After success in the four high speed events, Iain entered the technical Slalom and Giant Slalom events believing he could continue his fine run of form with confidence now sky high.

In the Giant Slalom events he took the he took the Junior Championship title, and came third in the National Championship race, while in slalom he scored second and fourth place results.

“It’s been a long season, I’ve made progress in lots of areas and overall I’m satisfied,” said Iain.  

“I have made big progress in the high speed events, (Downhill and Super G), in my best event, Giant Slalom, I have made improvements as well.

“The highlights of the season were definitely the British Championship, I said publicly two weeks before they started that I was serious about targeting medals in every event and I think I virtually achieved that: I was overall British Under 21 Champion, and runner-up overall in the all-ages championship.

“I have also achieved the selection criteria for the World Junior Championships to be held in Davos, Switzerland, in January 2018, so my objectives now are to put in the training and preparation to position myself to achieve top 20 results in this event.” 

“We’re delighted to see Iain continue to make rapid progress,” DPS Group director Martin Brownlee added.

“The results and performances for his age are fantastic, but more pleasingly for us is the tremendous attitude he shows.

“Iain is very dedicated to his mission of reaching the 2022 Winter Olympics, and so we’re willing him on to succeed.”
