Significant new partnership brings Edwards Engineering and DPS Group into the UK’s cask filling and disgorging industry.
Edwards Engineering and DPS Group form new JE Cockayne joint venture
Edwards Engineering and DPS Group today reveal that they have entered into a formal partnership.
This joint venture follows Edwards Engineering’s acquisition of the intellectual property, designs and copyrights following the liquidation of JE Cockayne Limited.
Consequently, DPS Group and Edwards Engineering will be able to provide significant support to the cask filling and disgorging industry in the UK.
Edwards Engineering, which has been in business for over 50 years, specialises in mechanical engineering. Fife-based DPS Group is a leading electrical, instrumentation and control business, formed almost 20 years ago.
DPS Group and Edwards Engineering will bring the capacity and industry leading expertise, new technological solutions, and a commitment to provide fast, reliable service to clients. Together they have over 70 years of servicing the whisky supply chain.
By leveraging the rights acquired from JE Cockayne this new partnership will offer customers:
- Servicing and calibration for all cask filling and disgorging operations including the Cockayne “Caskmaster” cask filling machines and the HMRC approved “Flowlog” system, used by the majority of distilleries throughout Scotland.
- Breakdown support and problem solving
- Developing new technical solutions in cask filling and disgorging operations
- System and equipment upgrades
- Calibration and servicing
- The benefit of officially recognised DPS Group partnerships with Siemens, Rockwell Automation and Schneider Electric – the only Scottish System Integrator partnered with all three major automation suppliers.
Edwards Engineering director Ben Carter comments:
“Edwards Engineering is delighted to announce the acquisition of the IP of JE Cockayne and by entering into a partnership with DPS Group, we believe we have the best of both worlds – industry leading expertise in both mechanical engineering and electrical instrumentation and controls. We have worked closely with DPS Group on a number of projects in the whisky supply chain and look forward to developing our relationship to provide a new class of standard in servicing and supporting the whisky industry.”
DPS Group director Martin Brownlee comments:

Bringing together these established, highly successful and ambitious brands is good for the sector. With renewed choice, expertise and a commitment to outstanding customer service, we’re sure that this innovative provision under the Cockayne brand will serve clients well.”
